Corner, Alcove, or Freestanding Cabin
Geometry is flexible: a steam enclosure can be built as a corner, an alcove, or a freestanding cabin. What makes it "steam" is the sealing system, not the footprint shape.
A steam enclosure is defined by three coordinated components: a sealed top (a tempered glass ceiling panel or a sealed transition to a steam-rated ceiling material), vapor-tight gaskets at every panel-to-panel and panel-to-wall joint, and a transom vent above the door that opens after a session to release pressure and dry the cabin.
The transom stays closed during use to maintain steam pressure.
Geometry is flexible: a steam enclosure can be built as a corner, an alcove, or a freestanding cabin. What makes it "steam" is the sealing system, not the footprint shape.
Most steam enclosures step up to 1/2" tempered heavy glass over the 3/8" common on standard showers, because the ceiling lite carries its own load plus sealed-joint stress.
Hardware comes from CRL (C.R. Laurence), specified in corrosion-resistant finishes such as matte black or brushed nickel that hold up better than chrome under sustained steam exposure.
A sealed top (tempered glass ceiling panel or sealed transition), vapor-tight gaskets at every joint, and a transom vent above the door that opens after a session to release pressure and dry the cabin.
Steam enclosures fit best inside a coordinated spa-bath or premium primary-bath build, where the room itself is planned with a steam-rated ceiling, tile substrate, and exhaust path.
Every project starts with on-site templating: we measure the actual opening and confirm the sealing tolerances before fabrication, because every joint has to be vapor-tight for steam pressure to hold. Moffat fabricates and installs the glass enclosure; the steam generator, plumbing rough-in, electrical, and tile or ceiling work are third-party scope, typically the GC's plumbing contractor and tile sub. We coordinate with the GC on sequencing so the enclosure installs cleanly after the wet trades complete.
Custom steam shower enclosures install in 1–2 weeks from approved measurement, vs. 2–3 weeks for vendors who outsource shower-door fabrication out of state. The broader steam-shower project runs longer once generator, plumbing, electrical, and tile coordination are factored in, but Moffat's enclosure scope stays inside that 1–2 week window.
Squeegee after every session to keep mineral spotting off the glass while the cabin is still wet.
Run the transom open after each use to dry the cabin and release residual steam pressure.
Clean with a non-abrasive cleaner; corrosion-resistant finishes hold up best when treated gently.
Inspect the vapor-tight gaskets annually and replace them as they age to keep the sealing system performing.
Steam shower enclosures seal floor-to-ceiling to trap steam pressure; standard frameless showers leave a gap at the top and use looser door sweeps. A steam build adds a tempered glass ceiling panel or sealed ceiling transition, vapor-tight gaskets at every joint, and a transom vent to release pressure after each session.
A steam shower needs a sealed top, which is most commonly a tempered glass ceiling panel or a sealed transition to a steam-rated ceiling material such as tile or steam-rated drywall. The ceiling lite sits on heavy-glass clamps and is typically 1/2" tempered glass to carry its own load and the sealed-joint stress; the alternative trades the glass lite for a tight perimeter seal at the room's ceiling. Either approach has to keep steam pressure from escaping at the top of the cabin.
Custom steam shower enclosures price above standard frameless enclosures because of the ceiling lite, vapor-tight gaskets, and steam-rated hardware spec. Cost varies by ceiling approach, glass thickness (3/8" or 1/2"), hardware finish, transom configuration, and footprint geometry, so every quote is project-specific.
Moffat installs the steam shower enclosure portion in 1–2 weeks from approved measurement. The broader steam-shower project takes longer because the generator, plumbing, electrical, and tile or ceiling work are coordinated separately by the GC. Vendors who outsource heavy-glass fabrication out of state typically run 2–3 weeks for the enclosure alone.

I do not hesitate to recommend Moffat Glass
"We needed our patio screen door replaced. Moffat answered the phone (something that 3 other businesses did not do), scheduled someone to come measure the same day, manufactured our non-standard sized door and installed it within a week. We have yet to hear from the other businesses we contacted who told us they would 'get right back' to us. The quality of customer service was very good. Everyone was friendly, professional, and expressed appreciation for our business. I do not hesitate to recommend Moffat Glass. They have been in Greeley for a long time and I can see why they have lasted."
I will absolutely be using Moffat again and I highly recommend them!
