Grid shower enclosures are built one of two ways, and the right choice comes down to the look you want and how the framework needs to sit in the opening.
An applied-grid build attaches a black-metal grid to the face of a single tempered glass panel; it reads as Crittall-style from across the room and leaves a smoother interior surface for cleaning. An integrated divided-light build uses true structural mullions with individual glass panels set into the framework; it reads as a true factory window with more visual depth and shadow at the joints.

Most residential grid enclosures use 3/8" tempered heavy glass, stepped up to 1/2" tempered for larger panels or wider spans. Glass is cut, tempered, and fitted to one opening.
Hardware comes from CRL (C.R. Laurence), specified in matte black to match the grid finish, with oil-rubbed bronze and brushed gold available where the palette calls for it.

Integrated divided-light builds require extra attention to the framework's structural support at the curb and ceiling.
Custom grid shower enclosures install in 1–2 weeks from approved measurement, vs. 2–3 weeks for vendors who outsource shower-door fabrication out of state, and applied-grid versions often run on the shorter end of that window.
Squeegee the glass after every use to keep water spotting and soap film off the panels.
Clean with a non-abrasive glass cleaner and skip anything ammonia-based — ammonia degrades the powder-coat on the grid finish.
On integrated divided-light builds, give gentle attention to the mullion joints during routine cleaning to keep moisture from settling at the grid intersections.
Use a soft microfiber cloth on the matte-black grid and hardware — these finishes are sensitive to abrasive pads.
