Glass Table Tops & Furniture Tops in Northern Colorado

Custom-cut tempered glass tabletops, furniture-top protectors, and full-glass dining and console tables, fabricated to fit your actual table, desk, or console, not a stock 24-by-60 catalog size ordered online. Moffat templates, cuts, tempers, edges, and places glass tops for dining tables, coffee tables, console tables, desks, and dressers across Northern Colorado, with premium edge work finished in-shop on every piece. Since 1921, we have built that craft a project at a time for the homes of Larimer and Weld County.

Why Custom-Cut Glass Tops Beat Off-the-Shelf

A dining table is rarely a round number, a coffee-table outline is not standardized, and the console-table base almost never matches a stock 24-by-60 catalog size. A custom-cut top is templated to those actual conditions, so the glass meets the table edge cleanly, sits even on every side, and matches any inherited corner radius rather than leaving an overhang gap. A protective overlay keeps the wood grain or stone veining underneath on full display while the glass takes the daily wear, scratches, heat marks, and water rings. Every Moffat full-surface top is tempered for safety, with edge work in flat-polished, beveled, ogee, or pencil-polished finishes. Because we template, cut, temper, edge, deliver, and place the glass locally, the buyer is not stuck unboxing a flat sheet from a national shipper. See how our in-house glass shop works.

Glass Top Types We Cut and Install

On the new-cut side, protective overlay tops are the highest-volume residential category, templated for existing wood or stone dining, coffee, console, side, desk, dresser, and sideboard tops where the grain stays visible under the glass. Full-glass dining tables are cut to the table base footprint with appropriate overhang, in 3/8-inch or 1/2-inch tempered depending on span and load. Full-glass console and entry tables run as slim tops on metal or stone bases, often spec'd alongside custom cut mirror and glass shelving on the same project. Custom-fit insert glass for furniture restoration drops into the rabbet of an antique buffet, secretary desk, or vintage sideboard, the natural bridge into our decorative and specialty glass scope. Outdoor and patio tabletop work covers covered patios and sunrooms, with umbrella-hole cutouts drilled to template. Every new-cut piece is cut, tempered, edged, and finished in our Northern Colorado shop.

On the repair side, our tabletop work covers damaged or cracked top replacement (a new same-size, same-edge, same-thickness piece cut to the original) and aged-top refresh that swaps a builder-grade glass top for custom-cut tempered glass with premium edge work.

Thickness, Edges, and Placement Options

Three thicknesses cover most residential tabletop work. 1/4-inch tempered is the standard for protective overlays. 3/8-inch tempered is the right call for full-surface dining tables, console tables, and large-format overlays where rigidity matters. 1/2-inch tempered carries the longest spans and heaviest-duty dining. Every Moffat full-surface top is tempered for safety, the standard for residential tabletops. Edge work runs to four finishes: flat-polished for the clean modern default, beveled for the traditional reflective angle, ogee for the high-end S-curve profile designers favor on dining and console work, and pencil-polished for the soft rounded reveal common on modern interiors. Placement methods include rubber bumpers or silicone dots for overlays, direct-set on the base for full-glass dining, seating in a furniture rabbet for restoration work, or floating slab style for console tables. Corner radii and umbrella-hole cutouts are cut to template.

Where Custom Glass Tops Live in Your Home

Dining rooms carry the heaviest tabletop work, from protective overlays on wood or stone tables to full-glass dining tables on metal bases. Living rooms add coffee-table overlays and console tables. Entries run console tops and entry-styling glass. Home offices cover desk-top overlays and full-glass desk tops. Bedrooms and dressing rooms run dresser, vanity, and side-table overlays that often come up alongside custom cut mirror work. Older homes across Greeley, Loveland, and Fort Collins are where furniture-restoration insert glass and protective overlays on inherited wood furniture tend to surface, on antique buffets, secretary desks, and vintage sideboards that deserve a custom-cut piece rather than a stock substitute. Light commercial work covers restaurant dining tops, hospitality lobby tops, and conference-room overlays.

Our 4-Step Tabletop Process

1

On-Site Measure

We capture existing table dimensions for overlay work, base footprint and overhang preference for full-glass dining and console, rabbet depth for restoration insert, corner-radius, and any umbrella-hole obstructions. Nothing gets cut until the measure is signed off.

2

In-House Cutting, Tempering & Finishing

Your top is custom-cut, tempered, and edge-worked in our Northern Colorado shop, the same in-house craft we have practiced since 1921. Edge finish, corner radii, and umbrella holes are finished to template before delivery.

3

Schedule & Place

Moffat technicians place every top, never subcontracted. The placement method (rubber bumpers, silicone dots, direct-set, furniture rabbet, or floating slab) is selected for the table type, with existing finishes protected throughout.

4

Final Walkthrough

We check top level, even overhang, edge inspection, non-slip placement, and rabbet-seat fit, and if anything needs adjusting in the first year, the same Moffat team that placed it comes back to make it right.

Why Northern Colorado Chooses Moffat

Since 1921, Moffat has cut, tempered, and finished custom glass tabletops across Northern Colorado, over a century of in-house craft anchored in three locations (Evans HQ, Loveland, and Fort Collins) serving Larimer and Weld County homes. We hold BBB Northern Colorado A+ accreditation and National Glass Association (NGA) membership, plus the Shower Door Professionals Co-op and our local Greeley and Evans Chamber memberships.

Every placement is handled by Moffat technicians, never subcontracted, and we also cut replacement tops for damaged dining, coffee, console, desk, and furniture-restoration insert work, scope many shops will not bother with. Our workmanship warranty is industry-standard, backed by 100+ years of in-house craft.

Schedule Your On-Site Measure

Custom-cut glass tops start with an on-site measure of the actual table, desk, or console. Walk us through the room and the project, and we will template the work so every top is cut, tempered, and finished in our Northern Colorado shop to fit the furniture it actually meets.

Glass Tabletop FAQs

What thickness should a glass table top be?+

Glass table top thickness depends on whether the glass is a protective overlay or a full surface, plus span and load. Most residential tabletops use 1/4-inch, 3/8-inch, or 1/2-inch tempered plate. 1/4-inch tempered handles protective overlays on most residential tables, the highest-volume use case across dining, coffee, console, desk, and dresser tops. 3/8-inch tempered is right for full-surface dining tables, console tables, and large-format overlays where rigidity matters. 1/2-inch tempered carries the longest spans, heaviest loads, and large-format dining. Final thickness is selected at the on-site measure based on your table type, span, and intended use. Share your table type and dimensions with your quote request.

Are tempered glass table tops safe?+

Yes. Every Moffat full-surface glass table top is tempered, which is about four times stronger than annealed glass. Tempered glass is heat-treated for strength, and if it ever does break under extreme impact, it crumbles into small granular pieces rather than sharp shards, the standard safety spec for any residential tabletop. Overlay tops can be tempered or annealed. Tempered safety is standard on every Moffat full-surface top.

What edge finishes are available on custom glass table tops?+

Moffat offers four edge finishes on custom glass table tops: flat-polished, beveled, ogee, and pencil-polished. Flat-polished is the clean modern default. Beveled is the traditional reflective angle, often paired with formal dining sets. Ogee is the high-end S-curve profile favored on designer dining and console work. Pencil-polished is a soft rounded reveal common on modern interiors. Bring inspiration photos to your measure visit.

How do you keep a glass table top from sliding on the table base?+

Most protective overlay tops use rubber bumpers or silicone non-slip dots placed between the glass and the wood or stone surface beneath. Full-glass dining and console tables are direct-set on the table base, with the base designed for the glass top. Furniture-restoration insert glass seats inside a rabbet built into the furniture. Placement method is confirmed at the on-site measure.

Can a chipped or cracked glass table top be replaced with the same size and edge?+

Yes. Moffat cuts replacement tops to match the original dimensions, edge finish, thickness, corner radius, and any cutouts. Bring or photograph the damaged top if possible (the cleanest measurement starts from the existing piece) or we template the table base on-site. Replacement work covers dining, coffee, console, desk, dresser, and furniture-restoration insert glass. Photos of the existing top or table base help speed the quote.

Since 1921, Moffat has cut and finished glass tops for the dining tables, coffee tables, consoles, desks, dressers, and furniture-restoration inserts of Larimer and Weld County homes, with delivery and placement handled by the same team that cut the piece. Share your project type, dimensions, and a photo if it is a replacement or restoration insert, and we will scope the work.

"We needed our patio screen door replaced. Moffat answered the phone (something that 3 other businesses did not do), scheduled someone to come measure the same day, manufactured our non-standard sized door and installed it within a week.
