On-Site Measure
We walk the space, capture the niche depth and width, cabinet interior dimensions, and the wall span and stud locations for floating mounts. Nothing gets cut until the measure is signed off.
A bathroom niche is rarely a round number, cabinet interiors are not standardized across brands, and the wall span for a floating shelf almost never matches a stock catalog size. A custom-cut shelf is templated to those actual conditions, so the piece meets the tile reveals cleanly, drops into the cabinet without packing or trimming, and lands plumb on the actual studs behind the drywall. Every Moffat shelf is tempered, roughly four times stronger than annealed glass and engineered to break into small granular pieces rather than sharp shards. Edge work goes beyond the seam edges of a stock shelf to flat-polished, beveled, or ogee finishes. And because we template, cut, temper, edge, and install locally, the buyer is not stuck unboxing a panel from a national shipper and figuring out the install alone. See how our in-house glass shop works.

On the new-install side, we cut bathroom shelves for niches above tubs and showers, above-toilet shelves, and in-shower toiletry shelves, templated to the actual niche depth and surrounding tile reveals. Kitchen display shelves cover open-shelf cabinets, glass-front display cabinet inserts, and interior replacements templated to actual cabinet dimensions. Retail-style display in home offices runs from built-in display cabinets to trophy or collectible fixtures and designer-spec'd accent shelving. Curio cabinet replacement shelves are templated from the original dimensions so the new piece drops into an aged or broken slot without modifying the cabinet. Bookcase glass shelves replace builder-grade adjustable inserts in built-in and wood-frame units. Floating wall-mount shelves on bathroom, living room, and home office walls use hidden brackets or cleats templated to the actual wall span and stud locations. Every new-install piece is cut, tempered, edged, and drilled in our Northern Colorado shop, the same custom-cut craftsmanship that anchors our mirror and glass table top work.
On the repair side, our shelving work covers broken or chipped shelf replacement (a new same-size, same-edge, same-thickness piece dropped into the existing footprint) and aged shelf upgrades that swap a builder-grade adjustable for custom-cut tempered glass with premium edge work. The work bridges naturally into our decorative and specialty glass scope on character pieces.
Three thicknesses cover most residential shelving work. 1/4-inch is the standard for short spans and in-cabinet replacements with light to moderate load. 3/8-inch is the right call for floating wall-mount shelves and longer-span display work where rigidity and visual weight matter. 1/2-inch heavy plate carries the longest spans and heaviest loads, including full-wall U-channel display. Every Moffat shelf is tempered for safety. Edge work runs to three finishes: flat-polished for the clean modern default, beveled for the traditional decorative angle common on display cabinetry, and ogee for the high-end S-curve profile designers favor on accent and curio work. Mounting methods include hidden floating brackets or cleats for wall installs, concealed pin-mount hardware for adjustable in-cabinet shelves, visible adjustable clips inside cabinet interiors, and U-channel for full-wall spans. Mounting-pin holes, corner notches, and any custom cutouts are cut to template before delivery.

Bathrooms carry the heaviest shelving work, from niche shelves in tub and shower surrounds to in-shower toiletry shelves, above-vanity display, and above-toilet storage that often comes up alongside custom cut mirror work. Kitchens add open-shelf cabinets, glass-front display cabinets, and designer accent display. Home offices and dens carry built-in display fixtures, trophy and collectible cases, and designer-spec'd accent shelving. Living rooms and dressing rooms run floating wall-mount accents, built-in display, and bookcase glass replacement. Older homes across Greeley, Loveland, and Fort Collins are where curio cabinet and bookcase shelf replacement tend to surface, on character cabinetry that deserves a custom-cut piece rather than a stock substitute. Light commercial work covers retail display, restaurant back-bar bottle shelving, and lobby or waiting-room display.

Your shelf is custom-cut, tempered for safety, and edge-worked in our Northern Colorado shop, the same in-house craft we have practiced since 1921. Mounting-pin holes and corner notches are drilled to template before delivery.
Moffat technicians install, never subcontracted. The mounting method (floating brackets, pin-mount, in-cabinet clips, or U-channel) is selected for the location and the look you want, with existing finishes protected throughout.
We check shelf level, plumb against the wall or cabinet back, edge inspection, and mounting hardware engagement, and if anything needs adjusting in the first year, the same Moffat team that installed it comes back to make it right.
Since 1921, Moffat has cut, tempered, and finished custom glass shelving across Northern Colorado, over a century of in-house craft anchored in three locations (Evans HQ, Loveland, and Fort Collins) serving Larimer and Weld County homes. We hold BBB Northern Colorado A+ accreditation and National Glass Association (NGA) membership, plus the Shower Door Professionals Co-op and our Greeley and Evans Chamber memberships.
Every install is handled by Moffat technicians, never subcontracted, and we also cut replacement shelves for aged or damaged cabinet, curio, and bookcase glass, work many shops will not bother with. Our workmanship warranty is industry-standard, backed by 100+ years of in-house craft.
Glass shelf thickness depends on span, load, and mounting method. Most residential shelves use 1/4-inch, 3/8-inch, or 1/2-inch tempered plate. 1/4-inch handles short spans and most in-cabinet replacements (under about 24 inches with light to moderate load). 3/8-inch is right for floating wall-mount shelves and longer-span display work (24 to 36 inches, or shorter spans with heavier loads). 1/2-inch carries the longest spans and heaviest loads (over about 36 inches, or full-wall U-channel display). Final thickness is selected at the on-site measure based on your actual span and intended use. Share your span and intended use with your quote request.
Yes. Every Moffat glass shelf is tempered, which is about four times stronger than annealed glass. Tempered glass is heat-treated for strength, and if it ever does break under extreme impact, it crumbles into small granular pieces rather than sharp shards. That is the standard safety spec for any residential shelving installed above floor level. Every Moffat shelf is tempered by default.
Moffat offers three edge finishes on custom glass shelves: flat-polished, beveled, and ogee. Flat-polished is the clean modern default for contemporary installs. Beveled is the traditional 1/2-inch to 1-inch decorative angle, often paired with display cabinetry. Ogee is the high-end S-curve profile favored on designer accent work and curio cabinet replacements. Bring inspiration photos to your measure visit.
Floating glass shelves use a hidden bracket or cleat mounted into wall studs, with the shelf sliding over the bracket so no hardware is visible. Stud location is captured at the on-site measure so brackets land in framing rather than drywall alone. The shelf is templated to the wall span, drilled where needed, and installed plumb by Moffat technicians.
Yes. Moffat cuts replacement shelves to match the original dimensions, edge finish, thickness, and any mounting-pin pattern. Bring or photograph the broken shelf if possible (the cleanest measurement starts from the existing piece) or we template the empty opening on-site. Replacement work covers cabinet shelves, curio cabinet shelves, bookcase shelves, and floating wall-mount panels. Photos of the existing shelf or opening help speed the quote.
Bring custom-cut precision, tempered safety, and premium edge work to your next shelving project, fabricated in our Northern Colorado shop. Since 1921, Moffat has cut and finished glass shelving for the bathroom niches, kitchen display cabinets, curio replacements, bookcases, and floating wall mounts of Larimer and Weld County homes, with installs and repairs handled by the same team. Share your project type, dimensions, and a photo if it is a replacement, and we will scope the work.

I do not hesitate to recommend Moffat Glass
"We needed our patio screen door replaced. Moffat answered the phone (something that 3 other businesses did not do), scheduled someone to come measure the same day, manufactured our non-standard sized door and installed it within a week. We have yet to hear from the other businesses we contacted who told us they would 'get right back' to us. The quality of customer service was very good. Everyone was friendly, professional, and expressed appreciation for our business. I do not hesitate to recommend Moffat Glass. They have been in Greeley for a long time and I can see why they have lasted."
I will absolutely be using Moffat again and I highly recommend them!
