On-Site Measure
We walk the deck, stair, or balcony, confirming post locations, panel sizing, code clearances, the 4-inch sphere rule, and the style and finish conversation.
Glass railings answer the design question a wood or metal rail can't: how do you keep the view? In foothills custom builds, modern interiors, and view-preservation remodels, switching the railing to glass removes one of the largest visual interruptions in the space. Natural light moves through the panels, sightlines stay open, and open-plan floor plans keep feeling open.
Beyond the aesthetics, tempered (and where called for, laminated) glass delivers code-compliant structural strength, meets safety glazing standards, and asks far less of you than wood or metal: no refinishing, no rust treatment, no warping. The same system works for premium residential and low-rise commercial properties up to four stories.

Moffat installs four distinct glass railing systems, each fabricated and tempered in our Northern Colorado shop and finished with premium hardware specified to the application: residential or low-rise commercial.
Most interior runs spec at 3/8" tempered laminated glass; exterior installations step up to 1/2" tempered (often laminated) glass to meet load and span. All glass meets ANSI Z97.1 Class A or CPSC 16 CFR 1201 Category II safety-glazing standards.
Hardware is where design intent gets locked in. Brushed stainless, polished stainless, matte black, and oil-rubbed bronze are the common finishes, with base shoes and posts coordinated for visual coherence. For any exterior railing exposed to Front Range UV and freeze-thaw cycling, we spec 316 stainless steel for its marine-grade corrosion resistance. Residential uses CRL (C.R. Laurence) hardware; low-rise commercial uses FHC (Frameless Hardware Company). Diamon-Fusion glass coating is available as an upgrade for exterior runs subject to hard water or UV exposure.

On the residential side, the most common applications are exterior decks (single-story and second-story), interior stair railings including open-tread floating staircases, Juliet and full balconies, and pool surrounds where code calls for taller barriers (48" or more). Many recent projects sit in the mountain-modern foothills corridor (Loveland Mariana Butte, Berthoud, and the Bellvue/Laporte edge) where the view drives the design.
On the commercial side, we install in low-rise buildings up to four stories: hospitality decks, mixed-use developments, restaurant and retail patios, and interior corporate stair runs. We don't pitch high-rise or curtain wall scope.
We walk the deck, stair, or balcony, confirming post locations, panel sizing, code clearances, the 4-inch sphere rule, and the style and finish conversation.
Custom-cut tempered glass, often laminated for exterior, fabricated in our Northern Colorado shop. Because we cut and temper in-house (a capability we've held since 1921) most railing projects install in 1 to 2 weeks of approved measurement, versus 2 to 3 weeks for vendors who outsource fabrication out of state. (See how our in-house fabrication shapes your timeline.)
Moffat technicians install, never subcontracted. Hardware is set to spec, torque verified, finishes protected through completion.
Panel alignment, hardware torque, sphere clearance, and top-rail finish are all checked. We don't consider it complete until it's right.
Since 1921, Moffat has cut, tempered, and installed custom glass across Northern Colorado: over a century of craftsmanship anchored in three locations (Evans HQ, Loveland, Fort Collins) serving Larimer and Weld County. Our in-house fabrication shortens lead times and tightens fit. We hold BBB Northern Colorado A+ accreditation and NGA membership, plus the Shower Door Professionals Co-op and the Greeley and Evans Chambers.
On the technical side, we spec and install to the International Building Code adopted in Colorado, not the California Building Code. Colorado doesn't require a state glazing license; our credibility comes from the membership stack, our hardware partners, and Moffat technicians, never subcontracted.
The International Building Code (IBC), adopted in Colorado, requires a 42-inch minimum guardrail height on open sides of decks, balconies, and mezzanines, and 34 inches on open sides of stairs. Pool enclosures step up to 48 inches or taller. Tempered (often laminated) safety glass must meet ANSI Z97.1 Class A or CPSC 16 CFR 1201 Cat. II, and IBC §1015.4 limits openings so a 4-inch sphere cannot pass. Colorado adopts the IBC and Colorado amendments, not the California Building Code.
Moffat installs 3/8-inch tempered laminated glass for interior runs and 1/2-inch tempered (often laminated) glass for exterior installations. Glass meets ANSI Z97.1 Class A or CPSC 16 CFR 1201 Category II safety glazing, and thickness can step up based on span and IBC §1607.8 load requirements. Final spec confirmed at on-site measure.
Custom glass railing installations in Northern Colorado typically run $450 to $800 per linear foot, depending on style, glass spec, and hardware finish. The range reflects custom fabrication, in-house tempering, and premium hardware specified per application, not commodity kit systems. Request a quote for a precise per-project estimate.

Yes. Exterior glass railings handle Front Range conditions when specified with 316 stainless steel hardware and tempered laminated safety glass. 316 stainless resists corrosion under UV exposure and freeze-thaw cycling, and laminated glass holds up to impact and weather. Decks, balconies, pool surrounds, and foothills view-preservation builds all spec correctly.
Open up your views, lift the light, and bring architectural clarity to your space with custom glass railings fabricated and tempered in our Northern Colorado shop. Since 1921, Moffat has built its craft on in-house custom glass work for the homes and low-rise commercial properties of Larimer and Weld County: frameless, standoff, post-and-clamp, and top-rail systems specified and installed to current Colorado-adopted IBC. Whether you're planning a foothills deck, a floating interior stair, a Juliet balcony, or a pool surround, we'll walk the site, fabricate the glass in-house, and install the system with our own technicians.

I do not hesitate to recommend Moffat Glass
"We needed our patio screen door replaced. Moffat answered the phone (something that 3 other businesses did not do), scheduled someone to come measure the same day, manufactured our non-standard sized door and installed it within a week. We have yet to hear from the other businesses we contacted who told us they would 'get right back' to us. The quality of customer service was very good. Everyone was friendly, professional, and expressed appreciation for our business. I do not hesitate to recommend Moffat Glass. They have been in Greeley for a long time and I can see why they have lasted."
I will absolutely be using Moffat again and I highly recommend them!
